A fantastic turnout for our “Jazz in the Village” event

Dominic Spencer, left, and Ian Millar, right, performing at Over Haddon Village Hall.

We were really excited to welcome Ian Millar (saxophone) and Dominic Spencer (piano), a jazz duo from Scotland, to our village hall on Friday, November 22, for “Jazz in the Village”.

Based in Edinburgh, the duo has regularly and extensively toured the UK. They have embarked on many rural tours under their “Jazz in the Village” series, playing in hundreds of halls and often bringing jazz for the first time to remote communities. They frequently perform in intimate settings to appreciative audiences and the beautiful Scottish scenery that they have seen on their travels has inspired the writing of many pieces of music by Ian.

More than 40 people turned out to our village hall to watch the pair perform and there was high praise all round for an entertaining evening. So thanks once again to Ian and Dom for coming to our village hall!

Plenty of entries submitted for the annual Over Haddon Village Show

Some of the entries submitted for the 2019 Over Haddon Village Show

Hundreds of examples of fine fruit, vegetables, flowers, cakes and photographs were entered into the 2019 Over Haddon Village Show.

A record-breaking number of entries were submitted to the event, which took place on September 7, with trophies, prizes and gift cards awarded to the winners of the different categories contested.

Visitors who came to see the produce on display then had the opportunity to bid for items they wanted in an auction, held to raise money for Over Haddon Village Hall.

Hundreds raised for charity thanks to Over Haddon’s Well Dressing event

The 2019 main Well Dressing display

A record-breaking £1,360 has been raised for charity through the efforts of Over Haddon’s Well Dressing volunteers.

Two displays went up in the village during its annual Well Dressing event in June – a main creation entitled “Wasted” and a junior display to mark the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Versailles.

Read all about preparations and efforts for the event on the Well Dressing page of the Over Haddon Village Hall website here.

The money was raised from both this event and volunteers’ efforts at the RHS Chatsworth Flower Show at the beginning of June (see below).

It was a busy June for the Well Dressing volunteers in Over Haddon as they took part in the RHS Chatsworth Flower Show.

They designed a special display for the prestigious event and took turns to man the floral creation over the course of five days.

It came ahead of efforts by the village’s volunteers to put together displays for Over Haddon’s own Well Dressing spectacular from June 22 to 29.
