Over Haddon Well-Dressing Commitee makes donations to charity
Good news! Our well-dressing committee has donated £200 to each of these charities following last year’s event:
Dukes Barn Outdoor Activity Centre provides adventurous activities for people of all ages and abilities. The centre is situated in Beeley, which is one of the villages on the Chatsworth Estate, in the heart of the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire. Its primary focus is children with special needs including autism, Asperger’s syndrome, Down’s syndrome, children with hearing or sight impairment and those with physical disabilities including wheelchair users. It also runs courses for primary and secondary school children and those from disadvantaged backgrounds or poor inner city areas.
Village Aid works with people in Africa to secure long-term positive change in their lives. It achieves this by developing strong working relationships with local community partners, supporting them to build their own capacity and supporting the delivery of projects including education and learning, securing livelihoods and advocacy and justice. From rural Peak District to rural Africa, Village Aid believes in people working together in partnership.
The Farming Life Centre provides health/well-being and business-related information and support to the farming and rural community of the Derbyshire and Staffordshire Peak District. It runs projects to address the (often hidden) health, social and economic inequalities and deprivation within the upland farming community, which are delivered at outreach locations and from its base in the Agricultural Centre, in Bakewell. The underlying ethos of all its initiatives is to improve the resilience of the rural community by supporting its residents of all ages to deal with their challenges in a timely way – before they reach a point of crisis.
