Serving our community

Welcome to the Over Haddon Village Hall website.

PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR VILLAGE HALL IS NOW COMPLETE AND WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR BOOKINGS FROM MAY 2011.

Over Haddon Village Hall sits in a superb position looking southward with uniterrupted views over Lathkil Dale, the village of Youlgreave and beyond.

Responsibilty for the management, maintenance and administration of Over Haddon Village Hall and it's site rest with Over Haddon Village Hall Management Committee. The Management Committee is a "not for profit" organisation and registered as a charity under no. 520490.

Over Haddon Village Hall is held in trust under a Deed of Gift dated 8th July 1949 from the then Marquess of Lothian. The trust deeds states that the hall should be used ".....for the purposes of physical and mental training and recreation and social moral and intellectual development through the medium of reading and recreation rooms library lectures classes recreations and entertainments or otherwise as may be found expedient for the benefit of the inhabitants of the Parish of Over Haddon in the County of Derby and its immediate vicinity without distinction of sex or of political religious or other opinions subject to the provisions of these presents............"

The original village hall was built in 1957 and has served the community well. However, changing demands, expectations and legislation plus increasing maintenance and running costs have taken their toll. As a result the village hall has been replaced by an up to date and improved version. The design of the new building ( produced by our architect Adrian Russell Associates of Bakewell ), aims to reflect the look of the original whilst providing an upgraded dual purpose facility. There is now a large kitchen, an office and greatly improved toilet facilities including a separate disabled toilet with baby changing. The new village hall includes a number of sustainable energy technologies that should reduce the running costs and the buildings' carbon footprint.

In obtaining the bulk of the redevelopment funding from BIG Lottery the Management Committee are covenanted to ensure that the hall continues to be used as a "community building" for at least the next 25 years. This will also ensure that the Parish of Over Haddon will have a facility to serve it's inhabitants into the future.

The new Over Haddon Village Hall  "Opening Ceremony" took place on Saturday 23rd April 2011. A full report is contained in the May 2011 edition of our parish newsletter "The Voice". To view the latest and earlier editions of "The Voice" select the header tab above and click on the links.
